There is more in the scriptures about King David than any other person except Christ.

1 Samuel & 2 Samuel are almost entirely about David. 1 Chronicles
David wrote 80-100 of the Psalms.

David is one of the clearest prophetic types of Christ.

The Holy Spirit inspired the scriptures and obviously wanted to say many, many things to us through the life of David.

There is much to gain by studying the life of David: leadership,  courage, faith, repentance, responding to criticism, endurance in trial,  and more.

But the two primary things that we want to focus in upon are:
1) worshipping like David
2) warring like David

We must remember that David did not aspire to be King, he was sovereignly chosen.

And the first words from the Lord about David reveals to us whom it is the Lord wants stewarding His kingdom:

1 Samuel 13:14 (ESV)
14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord  has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him  to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the Lord  commanded you.”

The Lord is not looking for stewards of His kingdom who are chasing after Ministry or Vision.

He clearly wants, “a man/woman after His own heart.”

This is the foremost assessment by the Lord of David. 

Acts 13:22 (ESV)
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to  be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the  son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

It is this out of the, “after the Lord’s heart” that flowed the worshipping and warring of David.

So, what does this phrase mean?

Heart: Lebab pronounced lavav
- inner man, mind, will, heart, soul, understanding

A. inner part, midst
  1. Midst (of things)
  2. Heart (of man)
  3. Soul, heart *of man)
  4. Mind, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory
  5. Inclination, resolution, determination (of will)
  6. Conscience
  7. Heart (of moral character)
  8. As seat of appetites
  9. As seat of emotions and passions

David was not Primarily after the Lord’s stuff, safety, blessing, or  favor but rather he desired to know and experience the inward passions,  desires, emotions, and character of the Lord.

David was the most radical worshipper in the Bible because he had the most radical revelation of the heart of the Lord.

In the same way, David was the most radical warrior in the Bible because  he had the most radical revelation of the heart of the Lord.

The Holy Spirit is working to produce a Church who is after the Lord’s  heart so that he can trust them in the brining and stewarding of His  kingdom on earth.
