John 14:12 (ESV)
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

John 14: 13-14 (ESV)
13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

“In my name” is the secret to extraordinary prayer.

This “secret” has been misused many times so it must be clarified.

“In my name” is not only a powerful plea for our request but also the accurate proximity of our request.

We ask “in His name” by saying His name to the Father but it is more than that.

We ask “in His name” by literally choosing what we boldly ask for from within or by what is connected to His Name!

When I was around twelve years old, I prayed, “In Jesus’ name make me a superhero like Superman with superpowers where I can fly and have super strength to defeat evil men”.

That never happened. Why?

I said “in Jesus’ name” for the request but I did not part “in Jesus’ name” to choose my request.

The Lord’s Prayer is “in His name.”

Other Bible prayer and promises are “in His name.”

Every whim or feeling I have are not necessarily “in His name.”

“In His name” is “in His will.”

1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Praying “in His name” is not just the adding of a spiritual phrase to the end of a desire we have. It is actually a “discerned bold asking” of the very will of God found in things connected to the Name of Jesus.
