Sam McVay Jr.

ABOUT this message //

1 Kings 16:30-33 (ESV)
30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him.
31 And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk  in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took for his wife Jezebel  the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal  and worshiped him.
32 He erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria.
33 And Ahab made an Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke  the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who  were before him.

1 Kings 18:4 (ESV)
4 and when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord,  Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave and  fed them with bread and water.)

1 Kings 19:1-3 (ESV)
1 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So  may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the  life of one of them by this time tomorrow.”
3 Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life  and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant  there.

The scriptures liken us to Elijah:
James 5:17-18 (ESV)
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he  prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six  months it did not rain on the earth.
18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

Elijah was an essential prophet in Israel's history and the “Elijah  spirit” is essential in the first and second coming of Christ.

John the Baptist carried the “Elijah spirit” to make way for the first coming.

The Church will carry the “Elijah spirit” to make way for the second coming.

By the “Elijah spirit” I simply mean the moving in Prayer and Prophecy  by the power of the Holy Spirit to bring individual and global focus  upon Jesus.

Besides the great exploits that will manifest in those moving in an  “Elijah spirit”, there is a dire warning about a “Jezebel spirit” that  is missioned to distract, intimidate, seduce, cut off, and kill.

Jezebel wants cultures of:
1) idolatry
2) sensuality
3) murdering children
4) fear
5) resisting the prophetic voice

Elijah:
1) moves in weather changing powerful prayer
2) releases prophetic fiery victory over enemies
3) succumbs to fear upon the threat of death
4) loses perspective in self pitied isolation
5) blesses and anoints next generation order
